This is a lovely Edwardian Pearl Crescent Brooch. Crescent brooches in Edwardian jewellery symbolised new beginnings, femininity and the "moon goddess" and were often gifted to represent the start of a marriage and frequently referred to as "honeymoon brooches". These pieces, popular during the Edwardian and Late Victorian Eras, were also considered symbols of change, growth and empowerment. Associated with the Roman Goddess Diana, the crescent brooch was a nod to felinity and the increasing empowerment of women, including those entering the workforce at the time. A wonderful gift with so many possible meanings!
